Bobbie Peers

Bobbie Peers (b. 1974) is a Norwegian writer and film director. HeadRead has not previously hosted a Cannes Palme d’Or winner – Peers earned that distinction with his 2006 surrealist short film Sniffer. He made his literary debut in 2015 with the imaginative young adult novel Lyridiumstyven (The Lydium Thief, Estonian translation Helios, 2018, trans. Annika Kupits). Its protagonist is 11-year-old William, characterised by a keen interest in science and coding, a resolute personality, and a body with an unusual chemical composition – traits that inevitably lead him into adventures and dangers. The book’s success has since grown into a six-part series, The Adventures of William Wenton, all available in Estonian. Peers has also written another series familiar to younger Estonian readers, The Explorer Club. The latest Estonian translation, The Umbrella Snatcher (Paraply-snapperen), appeared last year. This fast-paced and imaginative series follows Ella and Felix as they attempt to protect a vital slime-producing umbrella tree.
