There are two “bimbos”: one with a background in literature and dance, the other in pop and jazz music. Sveta Grigorjeva (b. 1988) is an Estonian poet and choreographer who has more than once created powerful ripples with her work, often crossing disciplinary boundaries. Her work frequently challenges social stereotypes, particularly those related to nationality and gender – as suggested, for instance, by the title of her most recent book, the essay collection The Clitoris Is an Anarchist. Her dance production Gargantua, staged last year at VAT Theatre, interweaves Renaissance literature with affective physicality.

Laura Põldvere (b. 1988) is a singer and songwriter whose expressive range and flamboyant persona allow her to move effortlessly between media headlines and Estonia’s pop and jazz stages: one day performing a spotlight-drenched radio hit, the next improvising in a dimly lit corner with Jakapi and Malin.

Now these two dynamic women have combined their seemingly different yet fundamentally kindred creative energies in a performance titled Bimbos Against Bombs. In it, not only do music and literature intertwine, but various roles and expectations begin to twist and come undone. No one quite knows what will happen – and that seems to suit the participants perfectly.
