Ali Standish is an American writer of young adult fiction. She began her award-winning career in 2017 with her debut novel The Ethan I Was Before. The book follows a boy named Ethan, who moves from Boston to the countryside to live with his grandfather after losing his best friend. There he befriends a charismatic and restless girl named Coralee and becomes caught up in a series of events that force him to confront questions of guilt, grief, forgiveness and identity. Three books from Standish’s highly popular series The Improbable Tales of Baskerville Hall are available in Estonian: The Improbable Tales of Baskerville Hall, The Sign of the Five and The Valley of Lies. As the title suggests, the series draws inspiration from the life and work of Arthur Conan Doyle: its central figure is a young Conan Doyle, who is invited to study at Baskerville Hall, a school for gifted children. There he is inducted into the powerful secret society known as the Clover, which brings him into contact with none other than Professor Sherlock Holmes.
