Estonian Literature Day 2026

On 30 January, Estonia is once again celebrating Estonian Literature Day.

For non-native speakers, here are some resources for getting to know Estonian literature.

  • EstLit – a new English-language magazine dedicated to Estonian literature.
  • Estonian Literature Centre – extensive information on Estonian authors with profiles, translated excerpts and more.
  • No More Amber – a new yearly magazine presenting the literature of the Baltic countries.
  • Estonian Children’s Literature Centre – a treasure trove of Estonian children’s authors and illustrators.
  • Under and Tuglas Literature Centre
  • Estonian Literary Museum – research and memory institution that also manages archives of cultural history and folklore and collections of Estonian national information and old books.
  • Mirko – the virtual bookshelf of Estonian libraries, which allows you to borrow books, read articles and listen to e-books.
  • HeadRead 2025 talks – recordings of some of the talks from last year’s festival by the Estonian Public Broadcasting.
  • The Year of the Estonian Book, a celebration of 500 years of the written Estonian language, which runs until Mother Tongue Day on 14 March.
