Attila Bartis
1968

a Romanian-born Hungarian writer and photographer. His internationally acclaimed third novel, Tranquility, published last year in Estonian, also proved to be his breakthrough in his own homeland, where his works have been discovered in the wake of widespread praise for the novel’s German translation. Although he is often categorized as a postmodernist, the chronologically non-linear nature of the skilfully composed Tranquility conceals a simple albeit existentially resonant story of a triangle between a former actress, her son and his lover. The book exudes the colourful character of Budapest and its residents.
