| | READABLE FEAST | | HeadRead is a celebration of literature taking place in Tallinn, in the course of which we try to show a cross section of the things going on in Estonian literature, helping the guests of the festival also to some glimpses of the world literature. We do not emphasize the size of the festival, we think that its contents are of greater importance – in the case of Estonian literature its comprehensiveness and topicality, in the case of foreign guests as variegated and original selection as possible. We seek to create contrasts, not conflicts.
HeadRead has grown out of two literary events with the tradition of several years – Sotsia and the Poetry Festival of Nordic Countries have kindly handed their best qualities down to us.
We would like to introduce some writers who are well known in the world and not unknown here, and also present some new authors whose work is well worth keeping an eye on in the future. We will also try to give an idea of the literary texts created in Estonia this year, and their authors. And quite naturally we try to create an environment where people who care for literature can meet and talk. On the whole the Tallinn Literary Festival HeadRead could become an event that both writers and readers would remember as an interesting and friendly occasion worth attending again and again every spring.
We hope for lively and active feedback from both the talkers and the listeners. To make the festival next year a little bigger, a little more intriguing and a little more dazzling. And so spring after spring after spring.
This year HeadRead takes place on May 6-9, it is slightly shorter than last year but more concentrated. The venues are the literature pavillion in Harju Street, Nokia Concert Hall, Niguliste Church, Vabaduse Square and Cabaret Rhizome in Kaarli Avenue. There are two more literary events taking place at the same time - Baltic Book Fair and the literary festival Prima Vista in Tartu. For us it is quite natural to work together and this cooperation can also be seen in our respective programmes. No doubt the concentration of literature in these days of May is the biggest you can get in Estonia this year. | | ........................... | Karl Martin Sinijärv | |
