writer of younger generation, member of the literary group Purpurmust.org (Purpleblack.org) that was created in the middle of the first decade of the 21st century. Despite her youth the writer using the pseudonym of Birk Rohelend has earned some popularity and attention. Her debut YA novel Mina, Mortimer (I, Mortimer, 2007) won the third prize in the 2006 novel competition organized by the Centre of Estonian Children’s Literature and the publishing house Tänapäev, two years later her YA novel Enesetapjad (Suicides, 2009) won the I-II prize in the same competition. Her most recent novel Mu sõraline sõber (My Cloven- Hoofed Friend, 2009) shared the third prize in the competion organized by the Estonian Novel Association. In addition to that Rohelend has published a ballad Alexander ja Belle (also in 2009). Since November of 2009 Rohelend has regularly performed as a poet in the poetry theatre Cabaret Interruptus in the theatre Cabaret Rhizome. | |
