perhaps the most brilliant representative of the literary generation of the late 1990s. Started as member of the literary group Erakkond (Hermithood), although his breakthrough came in 2001, when he published two collections of short stories, full of fantastical characters and crazy events – Vanameeste näppaja (The Snatcher of Old Men), and Härra Pauli kroonikad (The Chronicles of Mr Paul). The first received the Betti Alver award for best debut in fiction, and both books also won Heinsaar the prose award of the Cultural Endowment. His extraordinary success as a short story writer has continued – he received another Cultural Endowment award for his next collection of short stories Rändaja õnn (The Wandering Bliss, 2007), which is more contemplative and poetic. Last year he debuted as a poet.
