poet, columnist, prose-writer, literary editor of the cultural paper Areen. Does not often publish books, but when he does, they always attract attention. The most remarkable collection of the poet with a strong social nerve is perhaps Vabariigi laulud (The Songs of the Republic) in 1998, which won the poetry award of the Estonian Cultural Endowment. Platoni riigis (In Plato’s Republic, 2002) is so far his last collection of poetry. However, Kesküla has recently stood out in various other roles – for example as a wine journalist and author or editor of several books about wine. In addition, he compiled a book of memoirs about the Estonian writer and theatre director Mati Unt (2008), which was very well received. The genre of the collection of prose he published last year, Elu sumedusest (Of the Dim of Life), is a bit difficult to determine. | |
