Merca
(Merle Jääger)
1965

actress and poet. Merca who has punk poetry background is one of few remarkable contemporary Estonian poets refusing to write free verse and succeeding in it. In her powerful enchanting poetry full of romantic ecstasy she mixes supernatural visions with sensuality. She is probably even more brilliant as an actress, having won several prizes as a member of the „Vanemuine“ Theatre troupe. She has added spice to her creative achievements with her dashing public image. For instance she made headlines joining Estonian army and she has also given several outspoken and provocative interviews. In 2009 Merca published a book of prose and poetry Mees (A Man) as a kind of response to scandalous Naine (A Woman) by Olavi Ruitlane.
