productive and popular prose writer and poet who started in the so-called golden sixties, in the fourth poetry „cassette“ in 1966. She is probably best known as a popular children’s author, having written both prose and poetry for all the age groups. Thanks to her colourful image she is turning into a kind of symbolic grandmother of children’s and young adult literature, warmly welcomed in schools and libraries. Her texts have been used for the Estonian Eurovision songs as well as in rap music. Tungal is also the editor in chief of the children’s magazine “Hea Laps”. She has written for adults as well – this part of her work is represented for instance by her collected poems Täisminevik (Present Perfect, 2007) but also by her bestselling memoirs Seltsimees laps (Comrade Child, 2008) and its sequel Samet ja saepuru (Velvet and Sawdust, 2009). | |
